David M. Austgen
Managing Partner
David Austgen is the Founding Senior and Managing Partner of Austgen Kuiper Jasaitis P.C. He practices business law, with an emphasis on estate planning, local government law, and general business law, including real estate transactions and all related aspects.
A lifetime resident of the region, David was born in Gary and has resided in Cedar Lake for most of his life. He has served as counsel for various cities and towns in Northwest Indiana over his nearly 40-year career. With a strong interest in municipal work, he majored in Government for his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the John Marshall Law School in 1981. He is admitted to practice in the Indiana state courts, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
David enjoys counseling clients in crafting comprehensive estate plans, navigating zoning, planning, and land use laws, and addressing the legal challenges that arise in running a commercial enterprise. He and his firm partners maintain a title company and collections department to further serve their clients' varied business needs.
A member of Phi Delta Phi, a legal honor society that predates the American Bar Association, David also maintains memberships in:
- The Lake County Bar Association
- The Indiana State Bar Association
- The Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association
- The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys
- The Board of Directors of the Legacy Foundation, a Northwest Indiana civic and philanthropic community foundation

Timothy R. Kuiper
Partner
Tim Kuiper is a partner at Austgen Kuiper Jasaitis P.C. He focuses on all areas of estate planning and probate administration, as well as various facets of business law and land use.
A graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law, Tim has practiced at the firm since being admitted to the Indiana State Bar in 2002. He has also held a license in Illinois since 2003 and has been admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Tim is actively involved in the Crown Point Rotary Club and is a member of the Lake County Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Additionally, Tim serves as a Board Member of the Purdue Extension Lake County.

Michael J. Jasaitis
Partner
Mike Jasaitis is a partner at Austgen Kuiper Jasaitis P.C., where he practices a variety of law, from civil litigation to personal injury. An avid soccer player, Mike brings his passion for sports into his practice, representing high school athletes in sports-related matters.
A graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law, Mike has practiced law in Indiana and Illinois since 2000. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, as well as the Northern District of Illinois.
Heavily involved in the Indiana State Bar Association, Mike served as part of the Board of Governors for 2018-2019, was President for 2020, and he was the President of the Indiana State Bar Association (2024-2025). In the past, he has served that organization as Secretary-Treasurer, District Representative, and Young Lawyers Section Chair. As a member of the Lake County Bar Association, he has served as Vice President and a Member of the Board of Directors. Mike is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Currently, Mike serves on the Board of Directors for Lake Area United Way and was President for 2020. He has also taught as an Adjunct Instructor of Civil Procedure at Ivy Tech Community College. Additionally, he is a member of the legal honor society Phi Delta Phi and Phi Kappa Psi.

Ryan A. Deutmeyer
Attorney
Ryan joined Austgen Kuiper Jasaitis P.C. as an attorney in 2014 after graduating magna cum laude from Valparaiso University School of Law. Prior to that, he assisted the firm as a law clerk during his time at Valparaiso. Ryan completed his undergraduate studies at St. Ambrose University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History Education with honors.
His practice areas include:

Ryan has been admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and is also licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois.

Ryan has taught as part of the Adjunct Faculty at Valparaiso University School of Law.
While in law school, Ryan was awarded 2nd Best Oralist in the Susan J. Ferrell Moot Court Competition. He was also heavily involved in the Valparaiso University Law Review and served on the International Moot Court Executive Board.
